Belle Fourche is a community of 5,000 citizens located on the northern slopes of the world famous Black Hills in Western South Dakota. Belle Fourche is a regional trade center for people from the surrounding three states, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. Belle Fourche is also the site of the geographic center of the fifty United States - "Center of the Nation".
Belle Fourche (French for "beautiful fork") was named by French explorers when this area was owned by France, for the confluence of what is now known as the Belle Fourche and Redwater Rivers and the Hay Creek. The Black Hills Roundup Office is located at the Tri-State Museum & Visitor Center.
